Should I Buy A Google Pixel 2

On the back Google has stuck with a 12 megapixel camera sensor but it has a faster aperture (f/1.8 vs f/2.0) and optical image stabilisation while combining it with the gyroscopic stabilisation and laser autofocus which was so effective on the Pixel. The front camera of the Pixel 2 has also bumped up from 7MP to 8MP.
We want to add some info regarding the blue tint that some of you have been asking about. The slight blue tint is inherent in the display hardware and only visible when you hold the screen at a sharp angle. All displays are susceptible to some level of color shift (e.g. red, yellow, blue) when viewing from off angles due to the pixel cavity design. Similar to our choice with a cooler white point, we went with what users tend to prefer and chose a design that shifts blue.
A used smartphone can be an economical way to get the technology that you want. There are multiple listings for Google Pixel smartphones on eBay. When you purchase a used phone, there are multiple factors that you should consider.
The Pixel 2 XL has a 6-inch, 2,880-by-1,440 OLED display, for 536 pixels per inch (ppi). It's the same resolution and pixel density as the V30, though not quite as pixel dense as the slightly smaller S8 (570ppi). According to our own tests and experts we've consulted, the screen isn't the finest on the market, but it's fine. It's not nearly as bright as the screen on the Galaxy Note 8 or Galaxy S8, and its colors tend to be a bit cool and bluish. But performance is entirely within the acceptable range.
Google also manages to do bokeh Portrait mode with the single camera sensor through software. We took a photo of a heavily bearded GSMArena editor, and it worked pretty well, but stray hairs behind other hairs tended to be blurred out as part of the background. It's not perfect, but it's also not worse than on dual-camera phones. Bokeh works with the 8-megapixel front camera, too.
This is one area where the bigger Pixel leaps ahead of the smaller one, though. It's hard to tell the difference between a 440ppi screen and a 536ppi panel with the naked eye, but it gets much easier when you're wearing a VR headset: Daydream on the smaller Pixel looks genuinely pixelated, to a distracting extent, while it's acceptably fine-grained on the Pixel 2 XL. You see the biggest difference in text. Words appear to shift and pulse distractingly on the smaller Pixel, making it a slightly unpleasant phone to use for VR.
I don't think the display quality differences are so big that they alone should make you want to choose one phone over the other. There are other factors like the actual physical size of the screen and the design of the phone that are likely bigger purchase drivers. But it's certainly worth noting that just because the Pixel 2 XL is bigger and more expensive doesn't mean it has the better display.
Even a year after their release, the Pixel and Pixel XL were easily still some of the best available smartphone cameras. That was due in no small part to Google's excellent photo processing, which paired with camera hardware that lacked the typical assistance of OIS (optical image stabilization) and produced fantastic photos regardless. This year, Google has added OIS, widened the aperture to f/1.8 and improved its processing, with the only downside (if you could call it that) being slightly smaller pixel size on the 12.2MP sensor.
The Galaxy S8 and the Pixel 2 are both water- and dust-resistant, but Samsung goes a step further with an IP68 rating, meaning the device should be able to withstand a plunge in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. The Pixel 2 has an IP67 rating, which similarly lets you take the phone underwater up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
The Pixel 2 XL runs on the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 835, but the the marriage of Google's Android OS and Google's Pixel hardware is so efficient that it almost feels like the Pixel 2 XL isn't putting any strain on its chip. That should make for some great future-proofing, where the Pixel 2 XL will continue to perform amazingly well for at least a couple years.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL now have IP67 water and dust resistance, which should let the Pixel 2 phones survive in up to three feet of water for up to 30 minutes. That'll be handy for that one time you accidentally drop the Pixel 2 phones in water.
Curiously, Google didn't include any headphones at all with the Pixel 2 phones. That shouldn't be a problem for most people who already have headphones. But if you don't, you'll have buy your own pair. In a way, it make sense, as most people who care about audio quality would use their own pair instead of the headphones that are usually included with new phones. People who don't care so much about audio quality can use any old pair they have lying around, or get a cheap pair.
With the original Pixel phones, Google and its manufacturing partner HTC created a solid phone that was perhaps a bit derivative in design, but none the less had a unique aesthetic to it that helped to separate it from other flagship phones. The Pixel 2 phones, in turn, do not significantly rock the boat here. Instead they come off as a natural evolution of the original pixel phones.
In terms of overall quality, one of the big focal points of the original Pixel phones was to have the highest quality smartphone camera on the market. And while the Pixel has since been surpassed, Google is continuing to pursue that direction with the Pixel 2. While DxOMark is not the sole arbitrator of camera quality, the record-setting score of 98 means that the Pixel 2 phones should be very competitive in the market, and that the Pixel 2 will be worth keeping an eye on.
Personally, in my opinion, this is the best camera on any smartphone you can buy this year and that should be reason enough to buy it for most people. The best part is Google is able to somehow get perfect portrait shots while using just a single camera. Not just the rear camera, but its selfie camera is equally impressive as well.
The Google Pixel 2 houses a 12.2MP sensor with 1.4um pixels, Dual Pixel phase detect autofocus and an F1.8 lens on the back, and an 8MP camera with 1.4um pixels, fixed focus and an F2.7 lens on the front. Video specs for the rear camera max out at 4K 30fps while the front camera can do up to 1080p at 30fps. The whole phone is encased in an IP67 water and dust resistant aluminum unibody, and is powered by the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.
The Google Pixel 2 combines hardware with powerful software to produce incredibly detailed and vibrant still images in both daylight and low light. Class-leading dual pixel AF is fast and accurate even in low light, and 4K/30p is both beautiful and also smooth thanks to optical + electronic stabilization. The camera's background blurring mode is among the best. And unlimited free photo storage via Google Photo is just the icing on the cake. We wish it offered wireless charging, a more accurate color display and a telephoto rear camera. But still you'd be hard put to find a smartphone in 2018 that takes prettier pictures.
Released a month after the regular-sized Pixel 2, the 2 XL is a 6in smartphone with a P-OLED screen and a 20-megapixel rear camera that, according to DxOMark, is unbeatable. The latest Snapdragon 835 processor runs the show, complete with 4GB of RAM and a choice of either 64GB or 128GB of non-expandable storage.
Google's Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro bring some nice upgrades under the hood while carrying the same starting price as the Pixel 6 series models from last year. But whether you buy the more affordable Pixel 7 or the top-of-the-line Pixel 7 Pro, you won't find any additional accessories in the box. Google didn't include a charger or a pair of earphones with its Pixel 6 series last year, and the new Pixel phones aren't any different. That's why we decided to round up some of the best chargers for the Pixel 7 series in this post. Additionally, we're also leaving some recommendations for the best cables and other accessories that you should consider picking up for the new Pixel phones.
The new Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro come with a USB-C to USB-C cable inside the box, meaning you should look for chargers with a USB-C port. You also get a USB-A to USB-C adapter, but that is intended for use for data transfer and connecting accessories, not for charging.
The new Google Pixel 7 series phones, as mentioned earlier, come with a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box. While the included cable should be enough for most users, we're highlighting some more options in case you need an additional one, perhaps for a different device or in a different color. Here, take a look:
What's most fascinating about Google's new Pixel 2 phone is what's to come. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1449240174198-2'); }); The phone sets itself apart with promises to bake in Google's powerful artificial-intelligence technology for quick and easy access to useful, even essential information. But much of the neat stuff will come later. The phone coming out Thursday is more of a teaser.
When locked, the phone continually listens for songs and automatically identifies the name and artist. There have been times songs ended before I could pull up SoundHound to do this. Google says all this is done on the phone itself, so it's not sending your music tastes to its servers. Google says the battery drain should be minimal.
Next month, $159 wireless headphones called Pixel Buds will offer real-time audio translation, so two people can communicate using different languages, while hearing instant translations in a native tongue. A separate Google Translate app offers this now, but having the feature built into Pixel should make it easier to use.
The fact that the Pixel is unfinished shouldn't deter would-be buyers. This is common these days, as more power comes through software updates rather than hardware. Samsung's Galaxy S8 phones shipped this spring without its much-touted Bixby assistant ready. 59ce067264
